Celebrating Spring's arrival

The spring equinox, also known as Ostara by some, happens around March 20th in the Northern Hemisphere.

Considered a time to celebrate the balance between light and darkness, and to honor the renewal and growth of nature. It is also a time to focus on fertility and creativity and to set intentions for new beginnings.

Here are some ways you can celebrate Spring’s arrival:

  1. Start a garden: Spring is the perfect time to plant new seeds and watch them grow. Whether you have a small herb garden or a large vegetable plot, gardening is a great way to connect with nature.

  2. Take a nature walk: Take a walk outside and observe the signs of spring. Enjoy the blooming flowers, budding trees, and the return of wildlife.

  3. Cleanse your home: Spring cleaning is a common tradition in many cultures, and it's a great way to rid your home of stagnant energy and prepare for the new season.

  4. Create an altar: Set up a small altar in your home to honor the changing of the seasons. You can include symbols of spring, such as flowers, eggs, and new growth, and light candles or incense to mark the occasion.

  5. Have a bonfire: Bonfires are a traditional way to celebrate the changing of the seasons, and they symbolize the return of warmth and light. Gather friends and family and have a bonfire to mark this special time.

  6. Practice yoga: Yoga is a great way to connect with your body and the natural world. Many yoga studios offer special classes and workshops to celebrate the spring equinox.

  7. Make a seasonal meal: Celebrate the season's bounty by cooking a meal with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Spring greens, asparagus, strawberries, garlic, green onions, mushrooms, and of course eggs are just a few examples of ingredients that are abundant in the spring.

Some of the symbols associated with Ostara include:

  • Eggs: Eggs symbolize fertility and new life, and are often used in rituals and decorations. Painting and decorating eggs is a common Ostara activity.

  • Bunnies: Bunnies are another symbol of fertility and new beginnings, and are often associated with Ostara.

  • Spring flowers: Flowers such as daffodils, tulips, and crocuses are common symbols of spring and are often used in Ostara decorations.

  • Rituals: Many perform rituals to honor the changing of the seasons, set intentions for the new season, or connect with the divine.

Overall, the spring equinox and Ostara are both associated with the renewal of nature and the return of light and warmth after the darkness of winter.

I would love to know, what are your favorite ways to celebrate the arrival of Spring?

Happy Spring Celebrations, With Love & Gratitude,

Holly

We always color eggs with our children, even the older ones. And all are included in the egg hunt. It’s important to make their childhood last as long as possible.
